Kehillat Cornerstone is an entirely virtual experience, so you can participate no matter where you live. We will meet on Shabbat mornings from 9:30-11:30 during the school year, September through May.
Each session will begin with a short Shabbat service and community-building time for the whole family. Then we’ll break up into three age groups for our main learning block (learn more about our curriculum here). After a short break, we’ll come back together for special programs that highlight the talent and diversity of the Jewish world--artists, musicians, chefs, authors, museums, neighborhoods, gardens, and more. Optional Hebrew instruction is offered by private tutoring during the week.
Kehillat Cornerstone is not for everyone. If it’s right for you, it will be really, really right. If it isn’t, we are glad to help you find a connection with other learning communities--there are lots of great things out there. We have a strong sense of who we are: racially diverse, politically and religiously progressive, welcoming of all sex and gender identities, ready for different types of learners, curious about Jewish text, seeking Jewish connection, and committed to Jewish community. If that sounds like what you’re looking for for your child and yourself, you belong with us.
Kehillat Cornerstone is for lots of types of Jews--born Jews, adopted Jews, patrilineal Jews, Jews who converted, late-discovery Jews, Jews without Jewish education--and their families. It is totally fine if only one parent is Jewish. People who are on the path to formal conversion to Judaism are also absolutely invited. It is not a program for Christians who are curious about incorporating aspects of Judaism into their practice.
Kehillat Cornerstone is NOT a synagogue. We are an educational program for K-7 students and their families. We do not offer holiday services or programs, pastoral care, or life cycle events. We believe deeply in the importance of synagogues for the whole length and breadth of Jewish life. What we offer, Jewish youth education, is only one piece of the Jewish experience.
